Smog checks are required for most vehicle registrations and every year when you renew your registration. When you receive a renewal notice it will tell you whether or not a smog check is required.
A valid Nevada smog check is necessary to complete your first registration, annual renewal or a reinstatement of a suspended registration. Used car dealers must also complete a valid smog check on any car for sale. For private purchases, smog checks are the purchaser's responsibility.
